I have no history or any concerns about it. It's just that I hear it's better to just get a screening just in case.
The only thing that's holding me back is the prep. I'm scared of all the stuff you have to drink in preparation because I know someone who cancelled their appointment because that stuff made them dizzy and sick.

Not really a point to it if you don’t have any specific concerns, or a family history of the stuff.
Speaking as someone who has to get them every 3 years still in his 30’s though….. Sutab is the way to go for prep. Tasteless, and gets the job done.

I mean it’s gonna be big money to get drugged and sodomized like that before insurance will cover it. If you want something up your bum you can probably find someone who will do it for less.
Not sure where you live and who your insurance is through, but you most likely need your PCP to refer you to get one, and at 35 without any issues or family history, you would probably not get referred to get one.
As for the prep, yes, it is bad. Though I don’t understand the dizzy and sick part. For me, the stuff you have to drink tastes horrible (so maybe that’s the sick part?), and you will spend roughly every waking moment that last day within quick sprinting distance of the toilet as you feel like your soul is leaving your body through your ass, drip by drip.
The procedure itself is pretty much a walk in the park though as you will be under the whole time.
Why are you asking the Internet!?
Go talk to YOUR DOCTOR!!!!
For fucks sake.
It was a bit of a chore to guzzle down the last of the premix laxative but mainly cuz I was tired of drinking it in general. It didn’t taste great but wasn’t horrible. I chugged my allotments when possible.
I was more concerned with keeping my blood sugars at reasonable levels given the dietary restrictions in place before the procedure but that worked okay.
GI medical provider here. I’ve had a few patients in their late 30’s that have been unfortunately diagnosed with colon cancer despite no family history or symptoms whatsoever. So I would say if you can, it wouldn’t hurt. Problem with insurance coverage is that unless there’s a medical indication like family history in a first degree relative or you’re experiencing rectal bleeding, weight loss or changes to bowels they probably won’t cover it. However, you can also fib at your office visit and say that you are experiencing those symptoms if you’re adamant at getting one early. The prep sucks unfortunately there’s no way around that however. But it is split up so you’re not drinking it all in one sitting and there is a half gallon prep if you find the gallon too much.
WTF no.
Do you already have someone willing to do one for you? I just find it hard to believe you’ll find a doc willing to do a colonoscopy without an indication. Colonoscopies are invasive procedures utilizing anesthesia. If you had a complication and decided to sue, your lawyer would be dancing around his/her office the moment you two got off the phone.
The prep is totally worth the 2-3 seconds you get to feel propofol.
Not sure why you are getting so much hate. Colon cancer is definitely rising in younger people….
You drink a few small files that tastes like minty milk, then shit for a day. Thats all.
The worst part is that you cant leave until you fart because of all the air they pump you with, so you wake up in a room with a bunch of other dudes and hot nurses, and have to fart.
Talk to your primary and tell them your concerns. I know many men over 30 run into so many different cancers and I wanted one too, but my PP told me what signs to look out for and recommended I do one when I turn 40.

The prep really isn’t that bad. I was expecting the worst, but it was pretty easy. The procedure is also a breeze; you wake up feeling great with no memory of anything. I had my first at 42 and had it covered due to some blood in my stool. They found and removed some polyps, so it gives peace of mind.
In my opinion, the prep for a colonoscopy is not as bad as the horror stories I had heard, so don’t let that put you off.
I got my first colonoscopy earlier than doctors usually recommend because my grandfather died of colon cancer in his 30s, but if you have no family history, it might not be necessary (and insurance might not cover it). Talk to your doctor.
Colonoscopies aren’t 100% risk free. I wouldn’t get one before your doctor recommends it.
The prep is one night of sitting on the toilet. It could save your life.
I am old and have had four so far. Drink the stuff and have a banana popsicle after each dose.
You’ll be fine.
When you wake up after the procedure, you won’t know anything was even done.
Have you talked with your doctor about it? Check to see if your insurance will cover it (assuming you’re in the US) since you’re younger than when it’s recommended.
But assuming your doctor recommends it, it’s not that bad. I have to get them yearly, so I’ve gotten used to it. Make sure you drink plenty of water and following the fasting guidelines to the letter. Eating my first meal after 30-40 hours of fasting is always wonderful.
On one hand I’m thinking “35 isn’t old, relax” but on the other hand. My 35 year old cousin just got diagnosed with rectal cancer. So yea can’t hurt to get checked out. I guess we all should.
A colonoscopy for the hell of it may not be covered fully, a “diagnostic” colonoscopy can run you a grand in co-insurance. They typically only fully cover the routine preventative screenings at whatever age your medical background/doctor determine. Your mileage may vary depending on how good your insurance is.
Source: I had to pay out the ass 👍
Edit: The prep also really sucks, but I set up my guitar rig in the bathroom so I was well prepared! Make sure you have fun activities to engage in between the squirts of diarrhea. As long as you’re not a complete baby you can handle it.
No.
There is also a new DNA-based blood test that preports to look for genetic markers specific colon cancers, not pre-cancer growths. Medicare covered it for me.
Yeah, I mean if you strike out this Friday, go for it. Just to feel something.
Sounds like a pain in the butt to me!
this is comedy gold. I don’t think a single person has thought that maybe they actually want to get a colonoscopy done ‘just because’ except for OP
A voluntary colonoscopy? Just because? Go for it
The colonoscopy schedule is there for a reason. 45 is a good time for your first one unless you are showing symptoms. Please remember every single intervention or diagnostic has a health cost, many are minor but they are there. It’s also why you don’t take medication you don’t need.
No only if your Dr says you should or you have a family history.
