Me (29M) and my partner (27F) are looking at buying our first place together and we've been wondering if its actually doable to smash through the mortgage in about 5 years rather than the usual 25-30 year slog.
We're both in decent jobs, she's a nurse pulling in around £32k and I'm in IT on about £45k. Been looking at places around the £200-250k mark in the Midlands. Obviously we'd need a proper deposit first but we've been putting money aside for ages so that bit's sorted.
The thing is, we're pretty good at living below our means anyway. Don't really go mental on holidays, cook most meals at home, that sort of thing. Reckon if we really buckled down and threw everything we could at the mortgage payments we might actually pull it off?
Has anyone here actually done this or know people who have? Like is it just a pipe dream or do people genuinely manage it? Would love to hear from anyone who's tried it, whether it worked out or not.
Cheers!
