Active, fit 40 year old. This year I started having aches and pains that don’t go away, or go away very slowly with lots of focused rehab. Then when I get one resolved, another pops up. Is this the beginning of muscle loss?
In my 20s and 30s I always just exercised the sore part and it got better. Now I’m trying resting the sore parts. Dunno. Any advice on troubleshooting this body thing?

no sudden movements.
Need to stretch more and pay more attention to posture. I wouldn’t personally “exercise the sore spot”. No sharp pains.
Take some ibuprofen before exercise or other exertion. Expect longer recovery.
This is not muscle loss. This is likely stress of life and your brain creating pain signals to cope.
I definitely can relate. I even said to the doctor at my last physical it’s not like I can be going to orthopedic surgeons and get X-rays every time I get an injury, it’s unsustainable. The pains are not severe things but lingering pains that just won’t go away.
It’s like I need a physical therapist or personal trainer all the time. It’s ridiculous.
Stretching, hot baths to relax muscles and get the blood flowing to them. Myself depending on how sore I am. I take a really hot bath and just relax and let the water cool down. This way it does not contract the muscles as much when you get out. After a good nights sleep. I feel 100% better
I have had a rather exciting life that has led to many broken bones and muscle problems. I’m in the best shape of my life now and virtually pain free and I owe it all to yoga. My buddies give me some grief about it but I’m the one running circles around them so I definitely have the last laugh!
58. Today I have a stabbing pain in the side of my elbow. Comes around every few minutes. No known reason, didn’t wake up with it, it just started mid morning.
This is what getting old means.
Pilates. Real talk.
Welcome to forty! I believe it gets worse every decade. Serious pain could be cancer or some neurological disorder. I usually get an ache or pain from walking or even sitting on the couch. I even occasionally wake up with an ache or pain.
I noticed a night and day difference when I started taking curcumin, fish oil, and magnesium.
Do you take any supplements? I’ve started taking creatine and protein – and realized quickly that I was for SURE not getting enough protein in my diet. It’s really helped my recovery time even on hard days
