Hi everyone, I (27F) went on a first date with a guy (let’s call him A, 28M) and I’m confused about his behavior since.

The date itself went really well — we had great banter, lots of laughs, and he was very engaged. Honestly I haven't had a first date that nice in a while. Nothing sexual happened, we didn't even hold hands or kiss, but he did touch my arms a lot. When I got home, I texted him:

“Goodnight A ❤️ I had a lot of fun spending time with you ☺️”

He didn’t reply until the next afternoon, where he was flirty and playful over text (stuff like “Afternoon troublemaker 😏 guess you’re still recovering from all the fun I caused last night,” “I play to win 😉,” “Can you handle it? 😏”). I matched the energy and even teased “Sounds like you’re prepping for round 2 😜.”

Then he asked, “Tonight?”

I told him it was last minute but that I could make 9 work, or we could wait until Saturday since I’m free then. He read my message… and just never responded.

Hours later, I finally texted:

Not following through after attempting to make plans is a really bad look. I’m not here for that.

He eventually replied at 11PM with:

Fair enough, I’m all about follow through. But I came home and ate, then took a nap, just woke up.

Now I’m torn. On one hand, I really liked him on the date, and he did circle back with an explanation. On the other hand, it feels like a cop-out — it would’ve taken 10 seconds to send a quick text before disappearing.

I texted him back saying:

Hey, I get it. I just need reliable communication, even a quick text makes all the difference. If that’s not your style, that’s okay, just let me know 🙂.

But part of me feels like he’s already shown me his true colors. He was replying very fast to me prior to our first date.

Did he lose interest? Or am I overthinking and he just dropped the ball once?
