I’m in college, and I’m the class monitor. There’s one classmate who often jumps in and interrupts me when the teacher asks me questions. He tries to answer first and “outshine” me, which makes me look less authoritative in front of the teacher and the class.

As class monitor, I feel responsible for keeping order and representing the class, but his behavior keeps undermining me. I don’t want to create open conflict or look petty, but I also don’t want to keep losing face in front of everyone.

How can I assert myself, set boundaries, or respond in a way that shows I’m in control—without escalating things into unnecessary drama?
