So, first of all. I'm a dog owner. I also understand dogs are dogs and things happen.
This evening I was in the park with my daughter playing outside the gated children's area. A dog charges across chasing a squirrel and barks for at least a few minutes before doing the same thing again at another tree.
My daughter was a little scared and also hearing dogs bark constantly is not a nice thing IMO.
I told the owner her dog should be on a lead as it's out of control and she told me her dog is chasing squirrels for exercise and it's normal, it's what dogs do.
I told her if he keeps running and barking I will call the dog warden to which she replied, "Do it, they won't do anything". Which they won't, but I feel it's better to at least report this stuff.
Then her friend called me a stupid man and an idiot hahah.
They also told me it's a rescue dog and I said it's nice you rescued but that's not an excuse. They told me kids are always causing trouble to which I said true, did you speak to them? Nothing to do with your dog.
Some people so entitled. The park is a space for everyone.
Edit: So I think on balance, I probably should have winded my neck in and not said anything. I do still think that owners should not let their dogs chase wildlife.
