I have a car stored in a friends garage that is on a laid up policy thats about to expire. This was fine while the car was being stored, but we've since started the restoration project and pretty much all laid up / SORN policies have exceptions for cover while repairs are taking place, and often have clauses re: factory fitted anti theft must be functional – no one could steal the car as a whole all major components have been removed, body panels and doors are removed etc so it would fail to meet those two requirements.

There's probably £7-10k of parts that are uninsured by the laid up policy.

Does anyone know of any insurers who would offer some form of contents insurance that would cover things like engines, interior parts (seats alone are worth ~£2k and are rare / no long produced) stored at a residential location thats not my own home? My friends house/contents insurance would likely cover it but that would require lying about ownership and as its my stuff, I should be responsible for insuring it, not them.
