For context, I’m a 22 year old male who just graduated from college and I was going to return to my sports team (cross country and track), but just couldn’t do it because of some weird double standards that I faced. To start, it’s a Christian team and when I was asked why I’m still single, I explained that I didn’t want children and that it would make the whole relationship thing harder. I was met with much criticism about my decision and was ridiculed endlessly for it. There were others on the team who did not want children yet no one said a word to any of them about it. These individuals even approached me and were surprised that I faced such resistance.
This ridicule extended into other topics such as being on dating apps, sports betting, and drinking. Many others on the team did the same thing, yet none of them heard anything negative. I plan on joining a new team in January, and my question is how do I avoid being the one who gets targeted or hit with a double standard?
