For context I’m currently taking care of my younger brother, who’s moved in with me due to my mother and her partner going through alcoholism and drug abuse.
Which is fine by me. I’d rather he be here but I’m in a tiny one bed flat (he has the bedroom I sleep on a pull out couch) and it’s not exactly sustainable long term. I work full time but it’s minimum wage and I’m struggling to feed and care for us both.
We need some support for him.
My mother is still claiming his benefits which I’ve reported but unsure where to go from there?
I’ve called social services who have said they’ve allocated him a case worker.. twice we have been given an appointment for them to make a visit! And both times they have cancelled! I took time off work for these appointments!! I’m struggling to get him into school in a morning (he’s 15) the school have been useless and don’t seem to care about bullying and that he’s really unhappy there. I believe my mother has already had a court appearance and a fine last year for his poor attendance. So where do I go from here? Has anyone experienced this? I just want to get him some help but everyone seems so casual about it all. Meanwhile I’m like a headless chicken and doing nothing productive.
