This might not be the right sub to ask. I have a speech impediment (rhotacism) and I am currently working as a cashier. The way I pronounce 30 sounds like I'm saying 40. This is a common issue as most of the transactions I deal with are in the $30 range. The way I normally correct this is by explaining I have a speech impediment. However, I feel like this comes across as rude and normally sours the interaction by the customer being angry or feeling embarrassed about misunderstanding my speech impediment. Is there a better way to correct customers so that they aren't left feeling embarrassed? Or maybe another way to communicate the total?
