My adult son has autism and (controlled) epilepsy so struggles to do certain things but needs Photo ID and I've been trying to help him get it. We are basically stuck between a rock and a hard place and I'm at the end of my tether trying to get either a provisional license or a citizen ID for him. He is extremely worried and stressed about the situation.
Every form of Photo ID requires someone to counter the photo and the form and the list of who can do that is SO restrictive I'm at a loss of how to help any further.
Without already having a passport or driving licence you need to provide other documents, fine we can do that but we cannot find anyone on the "accepted" list to countersign. I myself am disabled, we don't have a huge family or friend network, and our GP will not do it as they require invasive information such as their personal driving licence number for example or in one instance Citizen Card wanted them to fill in a 3 page electronic document and be available for a phone call – Can't exactly blame the GP for not wanting to do that!
What exactly do people DO when they don't know any Local business owners, Lawyers, Doctors, police officers, bank officers, ministers of religion, or local councillors or civil servants ? I asked them what counts as a "professional person" and they couldn't give me a direct answer only that they need to hold a degree, or we could ask a teacher…which we don't know any of 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
This so farcical, and completely denies access to people who aren't "in" with a certain type of professional crowd in their life.
My son has an opportunity to make a decent living financially with a job but without Photo ID that cannot go ahead and I'm just wondering if anyone has ANY advice or way around this that they themselves did? Did they manage to get a provisional license by some one in any other type of job signing their form/photo? At this point I'm willing to pay anything 😩
Any help at all greatly appreciated!
