I have an elderly Staffordshire bull terrier who is about 15/16 years old. She’s been the most lovely dog, loyal, friendly and love people and makes a fuss of them.

However, over the past six months and she has deteriorated and can only walk a few steps then has to stop.

I’ve noticed recently her back and is starting to go a little bit and her back leg shakes, when I’ve googled this it says it’s related to arthritis

She has recently started urinating and pooing my front room .. three accidents over the weekend, including this morning.

Recently cleaned bedding has had to be re-wash which is fine, but it’s on a constant cycle,

She can’t go for a walk anymore, and when I do take to the field, she just stands there. SHe refuses to go for a walk locally and wants to get in the car.

She’s happy when people come to see her and still loving and likes cuddles

It’s really hard to know for the best. My 18-year-old son says ‘she is dying and can’t do anything anymore’.

However my partner who is the ever so positive one. says things like just put her in the kitchen when she’s had accident it doesn’t work that way when she’s just been outside to go to the toilet. This is making my decision harder because I feel like I am considering hurting my own animal.

I’ve booked an assessment at the vets on Friday but feel like the way of possibly putting her to sleep is too much to bear. It’s either that or she keeps getting worse and I don’t want to see her in pain.

Can anyone please advise here? Thank you.
