Hello,
I am a handicapped person who is the main carer for my partner. The area I live in is getting worse with crime and I don't feel safe. We live in a council tower block and it's honestly getting worse and the high street here is getting worse by the minute. There has been a lot of sexual based crimes, robberies and violent offensives on the increase and I'm getting frightened for our safety. I look vulnerable and don't think I could defend myself and I constantly worry that I'll get attack. I go shopping ones a weeks and to the bank once a month and the post office monthly to pay bills. Theres constant shoplifting and our local councilor told us police would be on the beat and that didn't last very long and our police station now has no front desk. Drugs seems to be a big problem here along with urban decline. You can't go out now without someone stopping you and begging for money and a few weeks ago someone harrased me for no reason I can only assume because they thought it was funny.I have thought about going out with the gladstone bag as its thick and if someone tries to attack me I could possibly hit them with it but I don't know legally what you can do and what are the best methods of protection! Ideally prevention is key but, no one in power cares and I honestly feel very sorry for the old people and disabled people who live here. If someone taught me how to pay all my bills online and do online shopping I'd never have to leave the flat but I don't see why I should become the prisoner of Zenda because my environment has turned into a dump… you can't even feel safe in the flats as non residents get in and set the bin chute on fire and one of the downstairs internal doors got burnt.
