Lifelong habit: My friends tell me their problems and I respond with fix-it ideas and advice. I get that this can come off as, "You moron, why don't you do xyz?" I sometimes couch advice as a question, "Do you think xyz would help?" But then I sound like a therapist vs a friend. So I try to just listen and say things like, "I'm sorry you're going thru that; that's gotta be so hard; oh boy, it's always something, isn't it?; jeez, what was that guy thinking?" But I get antsy. I'm great if you're having a heart attack, need me to watch your kids, or bring you a hot dish. But listening to a litany of woes? Help!
