I need to vent. Over the past few days, I’ve watched countless TikTok and YouTube videos where men talk about being completely ignored for years when they were overweight. And now? After losing weight, suddenly everything changes – likes, matches, dates, attention – as if they were perfect all along.
It honestly makes me angry, sad, and a little nihilistic. How is it that people can be so shallow? That years of personality, humor, intelligence, or just being a good human barely matter if your appearance doesn’t fit a certain ideal?
I get it, physical attraction matters – that’s normal. But the fact that it often completely overshadows everything else just feels absurd. Almost like people only become “worthy” once they hit a specific beauty standard.
I’m curious how you all see this. Have you had similar experiences – with yourself or people you know? Or is it just the internet making everything seem way more extreme than real life?
