Got back on Hinge for the umpteenth time since 2023. Once back, I noticed a surge of profiles have either "short-term relationship", "short-term, open to long", or "figuring out dating goals". I usually swipe left on these profiles because I'm not interested in anything casual at the moment. I put "long-term relationship" simply because that's my end goal. However, even women who have "long-term relationship" listed on their profile are putting in their captions they're "going with the flow" or just want to "go on casual dates".

I'm not judging if someone wants a casual relationship or just wants to explore their options, but I feel that sort of defeats the purpose of using Hinge which is supposed to be the app for serious daters. I was talking to one of my lady friends about joining the app again and we looked over each other's profiles. I noticed her profile also listed "figuring out dating goals". I asked her why she put that on her profile despite her always telling me she "wants a man". She told me she does want a man, but doesn't want to come across as thirsty for one so it helps make thing chill.

Am I missing something? Is short-term relationship the new "long-term"?
