My boyfriend (30M) and I (30F) have been dating for five months. We were friends prior for a few years in a larger friend group. When we started dating it was very romantic—he would mention wanting to meet my family, how much he loved my neighborhood etc in the first two months in ways that were healthy and sweet.
Fast forward to month three when he finds out he’s being relocated for work to Asia for three months. We kept hanging out prior to him leaving because we had formed this romantic connection but the conversations about relationship development and the future together died down. Now he’s in Asia, we’re still together but when we talk it feel extremely platonic. I think he’s so distracted by his trip (hes enjoying it which is great) but I don’t feel emotionally satisfied given our starkly different schedules right now.
Is it a bad sign that he doesn’t talk about his feelings and doesn’t talk about us in future tense when he’s back or do you think he’s just taking everything one step at a time? It certainly makes me self conscious and unwanted at times but we do talk every day.
TL;DR: Boyfriend of five months was relocated to Asia for work, loves it, but is distracted and doesn’t talk about our relationship in future tense and it makes me self conscious.
