For some reason, the store often received items that were meant for the European market. They could have two identical items, but the labels could differ between euros and pounds, so the two figures would not be the same.
Cashiers were instructed to scan the euros price as normal, which would then come up as pounds on the register, i.e. more expensive than it should be. The reason for this was to maximise profits.
However, if a customer questioned why the price was in euros, the manager was allowed to convert it into pounds in order to "make the customer happy".
Scam or what?
