I’m 25, from Kolkata but living in Mumbai, and come from a well-off family with high expectations for the kind of person I’ll marry. I was in a 3 year relationship before, but after that ended my mom started pushing for arranged marriage.
Recently, I met a boy from Kolkata, and we’ve been talking for 4 months. Things feel serious even though we’re not officially dating, and long distance has been hard. My job in Mumbai is high-stress and I’m thinking of leaving it, which makes me wonder if I should move back to Kolkata. I’d enjoy being home, and being closer to him is a big plus, but career opportunities there are limited.
The problem is, he’s only done a BCom from a poor college, and while he’s financially better off than my previous boyfriend, he has just one parent and isn’t likely to move out of Kolkata. I’m unsure how that would work with my family’s expectations or my own future plans.
