I've been paying estimated water bills since Feb 2024. Thames Water used to send someone round to manually check the meter, but I haven't heard sight or sound from them in over 18 months. I never really thought this was a problem until I clocked that, perhaps, I'm being overcharged!
My last manual reading in Feb 2024 was 1549m3 and my last estimated bill in March 2025 had my usage as 1637m3. I went to check my meter and, well, it looks like it's got stuck sometime between now and last Feb, as it's only reading 1574 m3.
Should I flag this up with Thames Water or wait until someone comes round and they identify an issue? As I understand it, it's their responsibility to maintain and read the meter. Had they done their job and sent someone round in the interim, this may have been picked up earlier.
I'm worried that, through no fault of my own, they'll end up backdating my bill. That being said, I've been making monthly payments based on the last available manual reading anyway, so I can't see how they'd be able to charge me anymore.
Has anyone had a similar issue?
