Hey Guys, I'm gonna break this down into bullets points to make it a little easier to get my thoughts down. Please feel free to answer whichever you can speak on or have insight.
For context I'm 22, have a wife, 11 month old son, live in rural KS. I don't really have anywhere else to go with my questions and thought I'd try here.
-
Career: I currently work at a small local county jail. It's not a bad gig and the benefits are great, but because of said benefits it hurts my check, I don't get overtime pay unless I get 86 hours or more per pay period, and that doesn't hardly happen anymore. I've enlisted in the Navy reserve as a BU to learn carpentry. When I get back, I’m really thinking about leveraging my rate training to get into the carpenters union. I'm just not sure which route to take.
-
Marriage: my wife and I got married in May of this year, I'm not looking for anything in particular, just whatever you think would be beneficial to know for a young marriage.
-
Kid/kids: I love you son, he's only 11 months old, the new born stage and infancy isn't that bad. I wanna do better than my parents, but how does one be a good dad? My dad was great when I was younger, but he lost the plot, to say the least, the older I got. I just feel like even now I'm completely winging it.
-
The in between: how to manage the waiting time between the next goal. It takes A to get to B but if I don't get to C I won't get to B if you know what I mean.
-
Being the sole bread earner: My wife stays home, I'm the only one that works. Next year I'm hoping to buy my father in laws house(the place we currently live) being the only money coming in, it's rough. Some months I manage to save a little, some it's almost pay check to paycheck. I'm grew up low income; that part l'm use to; but man as a dad and husband I feel like I've failed. What was once fine on my income, just feels like l'm so far behind.

Managing hobbies: there's not enough time in the day. How do you manage it?
I’d appreciate anything you can tell me
