Hello I have a question about the (for me) overwhelming presence of charity and donations in the UK.
In nearly every shop or pub or wherever there is always some kind of charity collection box.

-For the sports centre
-For the resque helicopter
-For the maintenane of the canals and rivers
-Schools, playgrounds
-Scouts
-Plenty of charity shops for cancer, mental health etcetera.
And the list goes on and on.

I live in Belgium and we also give to some charity but it's not everywhere around for nearly everything .
We are nr 1 in income taxes but I guess the governement in the UK raises its part too or am I missing something?
Most things here are payed by income and local taxes…
