Ages & Relationship Length:
I’m 30F, my boyfriend is 33M. We’ve been in a long-distance relationship for almost two years.
Hi everyone,
My boyfriend is generally very present — we speak daily, he’s loving, supportive, and says all the right things. For my birthday earlier this year, he promised me a very specific gift (a pair of shoes I loved). He’s financially comfortable, so affordability isn’t the issue.
Since then, I’ve been given multiple different updates on why it hasn’t arrived — things like delays, stock issues, card problems, and even having a relative send it instead of ordering it straight to me. Each time I try to hint or ask about it, I get another explanation, but no gift.
I’ve sent him gifts before — including a personalised card that arrived in a couple of days — and I even travelled to see him, which was a huge expense for me. I know how easy it can be to order and ship something internationally if you really want to.
For me, it’s not about the shoes. I can buy them myself. It’s the thought and follow-through that matter. Having something from him would have been meaningful, and after months of excuses, I feel like he just didn’t care enough to make it happen.
Would you be upset in my position? Or am I overthinking something small?
TL;DR: 30F, 33M, long-distance. Boyfriend promised me a birthday gift months ago, but after many different excuses, I still haven’t received it. It’s not about the gift but the lack of follow-through.
