My husband(m30) and I(m38) live about 6 hours away from his family. Over the past few years when we go to visit them, we leave after my husbands shift and get there around 1am. We have only recently found out that this is a big problem for them. Every time we go there one of them needs to stay up because his sisters(f28) dog has anxiety. There is no other reason for them to be up, except simply because of the dog. We only visit 2-3 times a year an now are being told that this is a problem.
The solution for them is we take a day off work and leave Friday morning instead of the evening. So we loose money so their dog doesn't go nuts? I'm trying to find a healthy way to cope with this but just cant get over the fact that we come second to a dog.
FYI we're both big dog lovers and even love this dog, just not okay with being second to him. Any advice for myself or for me to have a productive conversation with this is greatly appreciated.
TL;DR being asked to take time off work to accommodate a family dog.
