How do you feel more safe if your walking on the streets at night alone?

idk maybe carrying some kind of weapon or knowing some karate moves ? i don’t say I’d actually do it, but tbh nothing else comes to mind and I’m not only afraid of murderers unfortunately ghost stuff gets to me sometimes too . maybe not wearing any jewelry would help too. I’d try to choose well lighten routes if possible, then before entering the house , look back to see if anyone’s behind me and then open the door and i hope everything should be fine
By being armed.
Walk under street lamps, not listening to music, not being on my phone. Being on high alert about any move or sound. Clocking people that might be safe or not. It’s a lot of work, hence if I can avoid it, I don’t walk alone at night.
I have a jogging taser and pepper spray.
Having pepper spray. Additionally, I would hold something in my hand in my pocket, like a pen or a metal nail file, just in case, when walking through a part of town that makes me feel especially uneasy.
Depends where you live.
If you’re in a known “bad neighborhood” probably don’t be testing the waters and going out.
If you live in a sensibly safe area then what is it your afraid of and you’ll probably need a little exposure therapy with yourself to get out there.
The more scared you look. The more you look like a target.

I was attacked on my way home in my early twenties, wasn’t even that late… but ever since then I avoid walking alone at night… if I HAVE to be out alone at night I will always call an uber.
There’s a lot of safety apps like Noonlight that send distress signals and your last known location in the worst case scenario.
I would also consider being on my phone, like facetiming someone you know and making it very obvious.
Also pepper spray.
Having my 9mm with me.
Only time I feel safe is when I m walking my friend’s two 40kg white swiss shepard
I don’t walk streets alone at night unless my husband is with me
I basically don’t go out at night for precisely this reason. If I have to go out, I drive, and even then, I dont go anywhere that isn’t fairly populated. If my gym is empty when I turn up in the morning, I just go home (24-hour gym).
I live in the UK, so I can’t carry anything that would actually protect me. Even supposing I did, if I used it, I would be the criminal.
So my reality is, don’t be out when the sun goes down. I’m basically a really rubbish reverse-vampire. But there’s really nothing I can do about it 🤷♀️
I simply avoid the situation altogether. Unless I have a male companion with me.
I have a big dog
Dog.
Last year I moved from a tiny town in Wyoming to one of the biggest cities in America. At night I just…don’t. I do not go anywhere alone when it’s dark here. It sucks. I never felt scared alone taking a walk in my neighborhood even at 2 AM in Wyoming, but this is a whole other world here
I walk arround with earphones and I forget all dangers
I feel safe because I think I can kick 🦵 anyone because I have long legs or maybe I will scream ..I don’t know ..never been at that spot but never afraid
I don’t know if this is the “right” thing to do but I call a friend or pretend to call someone and have a chat until I get to my location
I don’t. But I like to run at night, so I mitigate some risk by staying in areas that are low-crime and trying to keep on the lighted side of street.
I also have zero problem running into someone’s yard or walking up toward a random house’s front door if I feel a car or person is being sketchy. Or acting crazy. Or hiding in the bushes. I’m not going to waste time on maintaining social expectations if I think I’m in danger.
I walk quickly, never just strolling. I always carry pepper spray, avoid dark spots and stick to routes where there are people around.
Just be batshit crazy and know you’re the scariest thing out there, that’s just me tho
Gun on me at all times and pepper spray IN HAND (they make jogging ones designed to be in hand)
I live in a very small and safe country so I needn’t worry about that
This depends a lot on the country and region of the country. I can walk at any time of day outside with headphones without fear but I live in the northern side of the Nordics
I live in Germany, I don’t feel unsafe walking on the streets at night alone. This highly depends on where you live.
