What’s something you wish you knew about friendships sooner?

  1. Learn to recognize and move on from people who don’t match your energy in the friendship.

  2. It’s ok to set boundaries and let them know when they do something that upsets you. Real friends won’t get annoyed or angry with you for that

  3. That possessive and controlling friends exist and it’s unhealthy and best to move on from those relationships. I thought that was only in romantic relationships.

You can’t be friends with someone who’s jealous and envious of you but won’t deal with it/process it in a healthy way, which has nothing to do with you and you don’t have control over if they will or can.

  4. That i cant do friendships that require constant texting or calling. I have my problems and life beside our friendship. I cant deal with a pissed off person mad i didnt text on a day ect.

  5. How uncompromising some can be—their way or the highway, which only is revealed after time is invested.

  6. A friendship needs work from both sides.

And: Don´t be sad if a friendship is dying….. Friends come and go – sometimes friends are a company for a short time during life, till they go their own way. It is okay. Everybody has to go their own way through life, sometimes the company of a friend will be till the end, sometimes just a few months or years. Sometimes it stops after a big situation and sometimes it just dries out like a puddle in the summer.

  7. That really…the only person you can actually ever depend on is yourself and if you are one of the extremely few people that actually finds a REAL friend that would never screw you over…you are super lucky.

  8. “friends” who only come to you for free therapy are very much *not* actual friends.
