Dresden,a cloudy morning and not too warm either… it’s another world in terms of temperature here, compared to the southern Mediterranean!
The historical centre of the city has been very impressively rebuilt, after the near total destruction (British and American bombing) of the Second World War.
Nice tram system,as in most Northern Europe cities, something we are really lacking in many Italian cities.
Today we’re taking the local train down the Elbe to do a circular hike which should include the famous ‘Bastei’…I think it will be pretty busy there, but apparently the rest of the walk is very beautiful and much quieter!
I met a weird guy who kept on going on about being a celebrity, making some bold claims like being the original voice of Mario before Donkey Kong was released (wasn’t Donkey Kong the first game in the Mario franchise?) and being a television celebrity. His claim that he was a wrestler in the 1990s appear to be true; he showed me some videos of a man that looked very much like himself wrestling (a bit chubby to say the least). I don’t know why you have to brag in public about it.
And yes, he did appear to be born and raised in Italy unlike the more well known Mario voice actor. His accent in English is definitely not native. I’m not sure why he’s in Knoxville to be honest. The only places where you could regularly meet European immigrants seem to be universities; I’m pretty sure that’s only because they want to escape post doc hell pretty badly.
Blueberries were on sale yesterday, which means blueberry muffins, oatmeal, and pancakes! Blueberry pancakes are so good with maple syrup for Sunday breakfast.
Do you guys make anything special for breakfast on Sundays?
I was watching this video yesterday about historical depilation techniques. I thought they meant stuff like sugaring or threading but this one was from the early 20th century, and about chemical depilation. The people who made the video said they had been trying to try it out for years, but couldn’t get hold of strontium sulfide which was in the recipe, until they found an institute to collaborate with them. I, on the other hand, would have no trouble accessing strontium sulfide and am morbidly curious.
Well, I have till tomorrow to persuade myself that it’s not a good idea. If nothing else, it would be very very stinky. But it looks so effective. I don’t know. Sometimes you see something and you have to try it.
