Last year I visited a couple of vintage or used clothing stores in Naples and Barcelona and was really happy with my purchases. For example, I bought a mass-produced, Scandinavian-looking wool sweater for 15 euros. In the USA, it would be $150 or more new. Anyway, I am bringing along an empty, compact 30-inch duffel this trip so that I can buy a good bit of stuff. Any thoughts on where the best vintage shopping might be? I'm an older man, but still like nice and slightly offbeat things.

I've read that it is illegal to throw away old clothes in Europe. Is this true? How do they decide when an item is beyond repair? Anyway, does this fact really encourage people to take their clothes to resale shops? It might explain why I got a couple of good deals. Are any cities or shops known for having great vintage clothing for men? Among those I am visiting are Rome, Naples, Athens, Palermo, Mallorca, Barcelona, Seville, and Reykjavik. There are some smaller ports as well, but I don't have a lot of faith in them having very much.

Right now I have shops selected for Naples and Barcelona, as that's where I bought things before and I like the shops. As for everywhere else, it is a crapshoot, which is why I am right here asking for advice. I know that I might end up just doing the searches on my on, but I don't want to devote the entire trip to vintage shopping. Although it is fun, so I wouldn't mind spending a reasonable amount of time on it.
