Recently I had the pleasure of reading the book "Death with Interruptions" by José Saramago, a Portuguese author. I was lucky enough to find an English-language copy of the book, but that could be because Saramago is a Nobel Laureate and thus, internationally famous.
In a similar vein, if I had to read books by one author from your country on topics that are contemporary – so, no Alexandre Dumas or Leo Tolstoy – who would that be? Which book would you recommend, provided that an English language translation is available?
I am trying to read more books written by European authors from outside the UK, so that I can develop a Western worldview that is not fully shaped by Anglo-American culture. I am from India. Unfortunately, I can read only English, so I have to rely on translations.
