Basically, the title.

I feel like my feed has turned into a constant barrage of America this America that, oh look at this thing a senator from bumfuck, TN said. US politics is present in meme subs, picture subs, everywhere.

I’d like to do a small readjustment to see more European content – or just stuff unrelated to the US. So, what are your favourite subs that are not flooded with America-centric content? News, memes, discussions, whatever – share it 🙂

  1. r/soccer

    Yeah it is a football sub but honestly it is probably the most based sub when talking about politics.

  2. Subreddits related to video games seem to be mostly free from politics in general

  3. I think most of the “specific topic focused” subs are still doing quite well when it comes to unrelated US political brainrot. Subs about a certain game / book / setting etc., so if you have any favorite media but haven’t been following those certainly give them a try.

    Other than those, you can’t go wrong with /r/AskHistorians , /r/BestofRedditorUpdates , /r/bestoflegaladvice , /r/HistoryMemes and the like.

  4. Here’s my French multireddit, for what it’s worth: https://www.reddit.com/user/magnusdeus123/m/france/

    Made it back when I got tired of American spam during the first Trump presidency.

    I have been genuinely interested in decolonization from American cultural influence and understanding soft power projection for a while. At least in my understanding, the easiest way to get there is to choose an alternative linguistic space other than English to base your Internet world on. I chose to learn French and go with that, but perhaps it’s also possible in other languages.

  5. For subs in English:

    * r/Formula1
    * r/F1Technical
    * r/OneTruthPrevails
    * r/History
    * r/LupinThe3rd
    * r/MotoGP

    Then subs in other languages:

    * r/Italia
    * r/Italy
    * r/ItalyMotori
    * r/Universitaly

  6. I like to visit some of the niche subreddits in Swedish about some of my interests. One such is r/blommor – which is all about flowers and how to cultivate and tend to them. I simply love flowers and nature. Another good one is r/allsvenskan – which is a subreddit all about Swedish soccer. It’s so much better than the quite unbearable international soccer subreddit as it’s mostly free from politics, and Swedish soccer still feels so much more genuine than the big leagues.

  7. If you like memes and LOTR, r/lotrmemes doesn’t allow political memes, and is lots of fun.

    Other than that, many art subreddits such as r/Watercolor, r/drawing, r/coloredpencils etc are great to scroll through and admire. r/benignexistence is another one that’s quite chill.

  8. /2westerneurope4u and some of the related ones. Europeans and a few others being arseholes to each other. Also comes with actual history lessons and information about various topics. Unfortunately suffering somewhat from an invasion of yanks, yank politics, and racists at the moment.

    r/casualuk r/askbrits r/askuk r/britishproblems r/britishsuccess All Britain focussed by design, most ban politics as a whole. There’s also regional versions of most as well.

    r/xcom r/xcom2 can you guess what games those are about?

    And music wise: r/musicsuggestions r/musicrecommendations r/letstalkmusic First two are for asking for/giving random songs/albums/bands while the last is for actual discussion.

  9. I generally avoid subreddits that deal in US politics. Mostly because I’m not American, but also because it’s a shitshow.

    It’s hard to avoid entirely but I do generally avoid most of it.

    /r/tumblr and /r/CuratedTumblr are always a good time.

    /r/IdiotsInCars is… a time. Though most submissions are American traffic if that counts.

    /r/meirl is a lot of things

    The rest is mostly fandom specific stuff that you’d find yourself if you were into it. I don’t need to recommend you The Amazing Digital Circus or Linus Tech Tips or lgbt or furry subreddits, if you like it, you’ll find it yourself.

  10. r/hema and r/swords for swords and stuff.

    r/Finland , r/Suomi and r/mina_irl for Finland. r/Finland is in English, rest of them are 100% Finnish.

  11. Reddit is an US site, still dominated by Americans so it’s almost impossible to escape more stuff connected to the US, if you are searching for things in English. You need to find either some niche group or something not in English. Any general subreddit about news or memes in English will be with a lot of content about the US.

  12. Probably this one and r/casualpt. But even if most of the subreddits I frequent have largely US commenters they don’t feel like they’re US-centric.
