I’ve been to Copenhagen three times and really like it.
Last summer I also visited Krakow, and I think they’re now both at a shared number one spot.
The cities I keep going back to are Copenhagen and Riga. I never run out of things to do in Copenhagen and I think maybe I just like Latvians and their food. Both are just relaxed places with beautiful scenery and fun shopping. Very different from each other in a lot of ways, but I like the energy of them both.
London is fun for multiple visits because there’s always something new to find and do because of its size. But my favourite overall was Prague. The most beautiful city I’ve ever visited.
London
I love football and darts and I’m also big fan of drinking pints in a pub and pub food. Absolutely perfect place. Also there is always shitty weather so it’s nice excuse to go to pub and drink.
Also proper Brittish geezers are absolutely amazing people.
I don’t have one favourite city, it really depends on what kind of holiday I’m looking for:
Culture: Tuscan cities, Rome, Paris, Copenhagen, Stockholm
With Friends: Prague, London, Berlin, Edinburgh, Budapest, Riga
With the Mrs.: Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid
Wine: Beaune, Dijon, Alba/Asti, Siena, Bordeaux, Heidelberg
Then there’s a whole Kids / Beach category with smaller places at the Mediterranean / North Sea / Atlantic.
Venice. Its so beautiful but i reduced my travels there heavily because the locals are terribly overrun by tourists
Rome and Madrid are great cities in 2 very different ways. Love them. Beautiful, loads of culture, amazing food, amazing nightlife and not too expensive compared to Paris, London & co.
Gdansk, Porto.
Wine river place for the summer.
Beer river place for the winter.
There is much more to both of these things, but this feels like the most simple, British way of selling it.
Tallinn in Estonia, it’s just absolutely enchanting and beautiful, especially if you are into medieval stuff. And the Estonian food and nature are also just excellent.
I like Bratislava, it’s smaller capital. Ideal for one day trip from Vienna or Czechia and also not crowded
Rome!
I’m an Italian living abroad but I’m not originally from Rome, however is my absolute favorite city for a weekend trip or bridge holidays. There is so much to see, experience and eat. The people are amazing, fun and friendly and even if it’s a bit chaotic, I love its atmosphere.
For me it’s Amsterdam, Vienna and Madrid.
I can’t even say exactly why, i just really enjoyed being in these cities everytime i was there.
Haarlem. It’s so quiet and very vegetarian friendly.
I generally avoid cities.
Not that I *completely* avoid them, and my most recent travels have been to major cities (outside Europe).
But most holidays are spent in nature (fishing, hiking, photographing, etc) and exploring small villages and cozy small towns, just chilling, far away from busy cities.
Really depends on the purpose of the trip. Thankfully, there is a lot of variation in Europe, so what are you looking for?
Not for a vacation, because why would I go to a city while trying to escape a city..
I like to take day trips to Vienna, just one hour away by train from Bratislava.
During summer Vienna is a great place to visit, parks, usual tourist attractions, museums or just walking in the city center and grabbing lunch
Too many to choose just one.
As a food wanker, Italian, Spanish and French cities will always dominate.
Tokio, foe me nothing beats the feeling there.
Inside of Europe, Prague it’s not too far from me and just beautiful architecturally
Barcelona. Or rather the many wonderful beach towns along the coast north of Barcelona.
Loved Budapest. Amazing food, lovely people, and felt really safe. Stunning buildings! Easy to travel also within the city. Just avoid the tourist street like in every city.
From Finland it’s Tampere. It’s easy travel everywhere (as a tourist), it’s not crowded, and if you travel when there are no big events the hotels are relatively cheap. Lot’s of museums, it looks lovely in summer, amusement park is nice, and every way really childfriendly.
Hello from Spain!
– City I always go back to for fun vibes, friends, overall good times: Amsterdam.
– coolest city: Berlin (I love the Cold War vibes, food is great, people look really cool, amazing museums, good thrift shops, eastern communist vibes are fun)
– Prettiest: Florence Italy, obviously.
– Best place to tour for 3-4 days: maybe a tie between Budapest or Prague. (Packed with pretty buildings, lots of culture and history, small area so it’s easy to cover, great atmosphere and food)
Leucate bc it’s affordable but also nice and out of the way
**All time favorite: London**, because of the unlimited amount of things you can do and experience there. See Darwin’s first cladogram at the Natural History Museum in his original notebook. Walk around Kew Gardens, you might bump into David Attenborough. Walk through Chinatown and eat a duck sandwich with hoisin sauce. Eat vegetarian Indian food for free at a Sikh Temple.
**History buff destination: Rome**. “What is this place? Oh nothing, just the location where Caesar was stabbed and the mosaic floor is still intact after 2000 years.”
**Foodie destination: Berlin**. Unbeatably cheap discount stuff in Rewe supermarkets every evening nearing their expiration date, American sweets in KaDeWe.
**Fun destination: Amsterdam**. Watch a sex show, smoke weed, then eat Satékrokets from a FEBO automat and great pastries from a confectionery while your appreciation of taste is doubled from the high. Night falls and that girl in the red window looks just like Lady Gaga, let’s ask her price!
**Home Sweet Home: Budapest**. The only place in Hungary where I can survive.
As a little nerd who loves museums, London and Berlin.
For a little romantic getaway (because we live close by), Colmar.
For eating, stocking up on good stuff, and recharging my sunshine hours, my hometown of Porto.
For ~vibes~ and hanging out, Zurich.
Just because I love it to death and I miss it often, Milan.
Any Italian city. I particularly liked Bologna and Napoli
I’m incredibly biased obviously, but Stockholm will always be number one for me I think. But outside of Swedish cities, my favorite ones I’ve been to would have to be York, Salzburg and Ljubljana. Beautiful architecture and vibes.
I’m not sure I dislike any European city I’ve visited, really!
The first one that sprang to mind are Porto and Madrid. Madrid maybe because I didn’t really have any expectations about it, it was just a stopover when visiting Spanish friends in Valencia, but it really took me by surprise how chilled out and relaxing it was for a major city.
And it’s hard to beat sitting by the river in Porto drinking some wine. Also very relaxing.
Really depends what you’re looking for.
Nightlife I would say Berlin, Barcelona and Budva
Food and beverages Spain and Greece in general
Beaches I’d recommend Sardinia even if it’s an island, they got the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever been to.
Weekend trips I’d say Prague which is one of the most beautiful city. Would also mention London because there is so much to explore.
When I was younger it was Berlin. Best party scene in all of Europe if you ask me. Now that I’m older and not much of a 24/7 party guy my favourite city is Barcelona. It’s a fantastic city that got everything you need for a vacation; beaches, great food, culture and nice architecture.
I really like to visit different cities each time. Last year I enjoyed Lille. But I also have fond memories visiting Venice, London and Copenhagen to name a few cities. But actually most of the cities here in Europe are interesting. There is so much to discover.
Tokyo.
Also London and Athens for European destinations
I am Italian. I have always loved going to Denmark in the city of Copenhagen
I mostly travel in the UK & don’t have an overall favorite city. I’ll just list 5 I liked.
London – There is alot to see there & things to do. If you can think of it, London most likely has it.
Cardiff – Small, but there is alot there, with it being quite vibrant & on the doorstep of lovely scenery. Pretty good if your a young adult, owing the strong student scene there too, owing to the 3 Universities the city has.
Dublin – It may not be the greatest city & it has its flaws, but I enjoyed the 3 days I spent there in Feb. There are some lovely coastal areas nearby as well if you want beaches, on top of some pretty neat history in the national museums. Only downside is that it is expensive & public transport in the city isn’t the greatest if you wish to venture off the Luas & DART.
Rome – very storied city. Ancient artifacts/ruins can be found around the city & it can create a nice feeling. Plus, if you want to, you can even make a trip to rome international thanks to the Vatican existing. I was there for 6-7 hrs and i want to see more at some point.
Bodensee – Not a city per-se, but it was gorgeous, with the alps right on your doorstep as well as many lovely places around it, like Lindau & Ravensburg. There’s also St Gallen & Liechtenstein nearby as well (which i sadly didnt get to visit). The public transport was solid too, with the regional tourist transport tickets you can get in Germany making it pretty easy to get around as well.
Other cities I liked, but haven’t had the time to fully explore are:
Edinburgh, Innsbruck, Freiburg, Bologna, Liverpool.
Too many to choose one,I’ll throw a few names out- Prague,Krakow,Edinburgh, York, Florence, Padua,Rome,Trento, Granada,Vilnius,Berlin.
Used to be London. So much stuff to do, museums are often free, cheap flights, and I have some friends there. Although since Brexit I kinda stopped going there, I’d rather discover new places in mainland Europe now.
Prague, cool medieval architecture and delicious beer
Leiden, Den Hag and the smaller villages in Slovenia (Vipava Valley, Tolmin, Izola)
While cities like Dublin, Paris, and Milano are fun from time to time (I also have a soft spot for Copenhagen), I honestly prefer to stay here in the Balkans.
Cities like Belgrade, Bucharest, and Athens are some of my favorites in the world. And some of the rural scenery in North Macedonia is truly unmatched.
Madrid, nice weather, not too touristy, fantastic food, great museums, great nightlife, affordable, and it’s not too difficult to hang out with the locals. And Toledo is just a quick train ride away.
I’ve been to ~50 countries (most of those being in Europe) and I’d say my overall favourite city is Copenhagen. Beautiful, good food and nice people 🙂
Barcelona! Loved it to much that ended up moving here and no regrets!
Next on the list would be London for the nightlife and cultural scene; and Berlin during summer.
Lisbon is amazing. The best food in the world, the city is incredibly beautiful and full of personality, and, despite being overrun by tourists to the absolute extreme, local people still manage to somehow stay super nice and warm.
Sarajevo is an incredible city.. History, culture, sights, food are all top notch and the people are lovely..
Honourable mentions for Berlin, Budapest, San Sebastian, Edinburgh, Reykjavik, Tirana Prague and Lisbon
Choosing a single city is hard, but it’s definitely somewhere in Italy. The best place for urban vacations, hands down and nothing is even close.
For seaside vacations, Greece or Cyprus.
For mountain vacations there are so many good choices that it’s not worth discussing.
From Scotland and love visiting France and Germany.
Saint Malo has lots of childhood memories and I’ve been visiting Paris every year for the past ten.
I have a friend from Glasgow in Berlin so often make trips there to visit for a weekend or so. Need to explore more of Germany.
