I'm not European but if my country goes to war I'd probably be forced to go to the battlefield, I wouldn't like it but I'd do it anyway since I would have no choice.

  1. I’d probably try and defend my own… but as it is, I’m not even functional enough for regular employment, I doubt I’d be a good fit for the armed forces to actually defend my country.

  2. I won’t be called. Having completed my military service 40 years ago, I’m too old, and have already been kicked out of the auxiliary reserve.

More probably, I’d find myself either continuing my regular IT job, or in some back-end supporting role.

  3. I would fight for my country and EU for sure in a just war. Being forced into an unjust I would go kamikaze

  4. I‘m a trained EMT and would try to find a role in a field hospital, a bit away from the front lines.

  5. Since I’m studying medicine, I presume I’d be assigned to a hospital treating wounded soldiers, which I would absolutely do. I’d probably be too much of a coward to volunteer for the front, though. But who knows, maybe the specific situation would change that.

  6. I prefer my shit country to the shitter country it would be under Russian control so yes I’d fight.

  7. I would fight for my country. It has protected me all my life, gave me healthcare when I was sick, gave me an education for free, and so much more. I am obligated to heed its call in a justified war, even if I won’t come back, and I’d expect the same of every other citizen who lives here.

  8. If it wasn’t written in my genes to die in the nordic forests then I’ll make damn sure that it is if Sweden gets called upon to fight.

  9. If it is a defensive war, i guess i am doing what i’m told. In the 20’s, physically fit and not in a really important job (IT, not the fancy stuff, mostly web apps).

I would try to get to the recruitment office as soon as possible to maybe get a better chance of training and choice of role while the active reserves are still doing fine on the supposed front.

I think the later i join the more shitty i will get trained and equipped.

If it were an offensive war and it’s not very very very very well explained by the government, i start ripping out train tracks. You do not invade another country.

  10. Tell them I’m sleeping. Come back tomorrow.

    Oh wait this isn’t 2WE4U.

I’m half blind. I’d be as useful as tits on a bull in a war.

  11. I am a woman in my late 40s with some health problems, so I would not be asked to fight in active combat. I would, however, help wherever needed and wherever they find me capable of fulfilling a useful role.

I understand particularly targeted people or minorities that try to flee, but, I mean, if no one resists an aggressor, then the aggressor is going to win.

Someone here asked: what has my country done for me?
Well, for me the answer is: it has provided me with the opportunity to grow up in peace and relative wealth, to go to university and live my life the way I want to. That’s so much more than many people (in particular women) around the globe ever experience.

  12. My country doesn’t really have an army but I’d die for it if things came to it.
This talk about us maybe having a military at some point has actually gotten me to genuinely consider enlisting.

I’m not a nationalist or a patriot who will defend it against ALL criticism ALWAYS, I just admire most things about it and there would be so much to fight for. I definitely do love my country. I’d obviously not be Rambo or even that good, but in a scenario where I would be in this situation, it would just be the right thing to do.

  13. I would most likely volunteer [as a Lotta](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotta_Sv%C3%A4rd). This is something that I have decided decades ago since I have many relatives that worked as Lotta. Why just the most likely part — modern warfare is more complex than the old one. It could so be, that I might be more useful on other tasks.

TLDR: I would be one who helps others with anything that goes on at the battlefield. Bubbling under some suicide mission with great bazooka.

  14. I would fight. I’d be scared as hell and I will most likely die but someone has to do it. Better die for free Europe than live like a rat in Russia

  15. If my fatherland would call on me to fight in a war that I believe is just and necessary (such as a defensive one), I would not hesitate to go, despite the fear associated with it. This doesn’t mean that I seek war or that I have any illusions about heroism. But, if putting my life on the line is the price to pay to protect my people, then that is a price that I am willing to pay. Still, if I am to fight, I want to do so with substantial skill, which is why I am already acquiring abilities that should have real value at the front and behind the lines.

On the other hand, if I believe that the conflict is unjust (an offensive campaign), I will not throw my life away. I can fight for those who truly need to be protected, against aggressors, but I will not see myself become one.

  16. They must be desperate if they called me as I am blind on my right eye and have less hearing on my left ear. However, I’d certainly contribute in some other ways that I would be able too.

  17. I would do everything in my power to avoid fighting.

But I live in Hungary, so we would probably be on the evil side, making desertion morally correct.

  18. I would serve.

I‘m alone, I have nothing to lose. I don’t even have pets.

I missed most of my life goals and I just go to my job everyday because I have to.

I once read a biography from a WW1 soldier who described how he wasn’t able to fit into society anymore after the war. It just seemed boring. At the front every day was somehow special since you always had the goal to survive.

Since reading this I wouldn’t mind to serve.

  19. If it’s a defensive war against Russia (which is the most likely scenario if we talk about war in Europe today), then, yes – I would do it.
In that context, comments like “I don’t like violence” look a bit pathetic. Would you rather have your family gang raped and murdered by some russian soldiers on a drunk rampage then?

If we’re talking about some expeditionary force to fight for some vaguely defined goals – absolutely not.

  20. No fucking way I’d fight. If a war starts in Europe Hungary is more than likely on the wrong side, and I’d be looking for a way to get the fuck out before my neck is on the chopping block.

  21. I know the place I would be fighting, I like the forests there. Of course I would go, just like my grandpa and great grandfather before me.

  22. Being early 50s I wouldn’t be called very soon. Except maybe to guard some site. But if called I would join the fight.

  23. I’d go willingly.
I’m a finn and still in active reserve for a while so i wouldn’t have much choice anyway, but i think my countrymens right to not be russian is more important than my safety.

  24. I’d grab my gear and report to where I need to be, I’d have no choice, legally speaking nor morally. I’d go to first foremost protect my home and the one’s I love, but also because they guys in my unit would be bored otherwise.

  25. Finnish here. I have made my military oath to serve and protect. Id be in a important batallion protecting the capital.

  26. Like most Finnish men, I have military training and will do my part if it comes to that. I even know my exact wartime duties. Fleeing, while friends and family are fighting, is not an option.
