I’m reading an article this morning about ‘fast homeware’ which is apparently taking over from ‘fast fashion ‘.
A lot of people in the US, Europe etc buying lots of cheap, disposable things for their house, and changing those very frequently.. they are mostly made in China, mass produced and low quality.
What do you think about buying specific homeware based on the season or on a special day, like Halloween or St Valentine’s Day, for example?
I guess of all the etymologies that keep surprising me, the word villain is really up there. It comes from the word “villanus”, so villa dweller (not like a rich villa dweller, but those bound to the estate of a villa), then to “villein”, so villager, person with no knightly status. Over time, it came to mean a person with bad manners and bad manners and lack of social standing and wealth came to be equated with bad morals and evil (because obviously your lord liege could never be a bad person, that was reserved for peasants).
Hmpf. Lots to unpack.
I woke up today and it was already bright sunshine outside. So weird. I didn’t even wake up that late.
The probationary employees are gone from my brother’s government site. I heard they just suddenly fired them on the spot. Elon Musk seems quite intent on cost cutting. Well, my brother is fine for now (probably fine for a little bit due to it being hard to fire government employees not on probation). There’s some worrying things at the American nuclear weapons facilities where employees with high levels of clearance were being fired, and then the terminations were rescinded due to them realizing that.
JD Vance has really gone crazy now. Weren’t they supposed to talk about geopolitical tensions at the Munich security conference, not European domestic politics? And then, he decided to meet with Alice Weidel for some reason afterwards; I wonder what kind of ideas or plans she wants to talk about. She seems to quite enjoy going to international conferences lately for not being much of a globalist.
Crazy how much the world has changed the last decade.
