In the the United States if you have dinner at a restaurant it is traditional (and sometimes done over your objections) for the restaurant staff to come your table a sing you a birthday song, and present you with a serving of dessert (most often cake with a candle in it). Your dessert will be free, but other customers desserts are still charged.

Many people, especially shy people and my wife, dislike this tradition tremulously.

Is there any tradition like this in your nation? If so, what do they do? Is it popular?
