I’m in the U.S., and almost every leader/high earner/person-who-got-a-promotion I’ve ever seen has worked late/early/at home outside of normal work hours before/after a full 8-hour day of work to earn or keep their job. I’m wondering if this culture is specific to the U.S.

We also are only used to two weeks of paid vacation annually. And that’s usually only if you have a “good” white collar job with benefits like retirement and health insurance.
