When we went to France when I was a kid we always brought our own mayonaise, bevause we did not like the French version at all. If we went to Germany, dad would always bring his own whipped cream. The one we have here is sweetened, but in Germany that is not the case, or less so. Do you guys do something similar as well?

  1. I don’t bring anything, but my mom never goes anywhere without her Turkish coffee and electric coffee maker. She must drink one coffee every day, and that’s the only coffee that she likes.

  2. I bring tea.

    I’m not fussy with most things. Is the mustard a bit hotter than usual? Fine. Is the water always fizzy? I’ve learned to ask for still water.

    With tea, however, I am rather uncompromising haha. Tetley tea. *Only* Tetley. Teabag in cup, hot water, leave it to marinate a few minutes, and then a splash of milk. (I’m a milk-first kinda guy, but I do it backwards since not everybody has a teapot.)

    Although in a pinch, I’ll have whatever Earl Grey they’ve got. Anything but Lipton.

  3. On holiday not much, other than my brand of medications and period products if i need them. For longer stays abroad, definitely some cooking stuff, like my favourite tomato sauce brand, and stuff like serrano ham.

  4. Ryebread, pig liver paté spread, and remoulade condiment.

    The are all rare or non-existent in most other countries, at least in our version.

  5. I only bring sunscreen. In Germany, a normal sized bottle with SPF 50 is around 3 Euros. In many countries, they have ridiculous prices for it.

    Maybe the locals shop in a secret special shop were you don’t get ripped off when buying sunscreen, but so far I haven’t found it.

  6. We never bring food to other countries (apart from maybe having some snacks from Finland when driving to Latvia. Most are from the ship, though)

  7. I just bring a couple of sachets of camomile tea in case the hotel only has English breakfast tea

    And I usually don’t trust buying skincare supplies so I bring enough of my own

    Otherwise I’m happy to discover local food culture

    Bringing mayonnaise to France makes me chuckle because it’s a French condiment 😜

  8. this is a dutch practice hahaha, oh my fellow dutch, bringing even their own potatos on vacation. french mayonaise is delicious

  9. I live abroad and the only things I still use from ‘home’ are Marmite and teabags

  10. Greek Olive oil. Even in Italy, the best olive oil is 99% Greek (but triple more expensive)

  11. I had a Polish flatmate in university who brought his own McDonald’s brand ketchup from Poland because he didn’t like any other options.

  12. If I go to Brazil, (I am portuguese), we always take codfish, olive oil, olives , Milka chocolates, portuguese chouriço or chorizo on Spanish, moscatel wine.
    I always bring, Havaianas flip flops, pacoça (peanuts grinded with sugar a bottle cork shape), dried banana, dried mango, rapadura (sugar cane boiled and then dried) goiabada(guava jam).

  13. I live in France half the time, so there is always hot sauce from California in my suitcase when I head over here. I keep it stocked in my kitchen on the side.

  14. I have sometimes brought rye bread. It is not that I don’t like other kinds of bread, I do, but they don’t fill you up the same way. And some countries have very white and sugary bread which is just too sweet for me and I don’t see the use in eating bread that will not satisfy my hunger at all, just make me fatter lol.

  15. Not that I really ever do but if pushed I would bring teabags and crisps. Ours are just better lol

  16. Chilli mayo sauce from Zvijezda, nothing comes even close. Perfect ratio of chilli, hot flavour and mayo.

  17. I won’t take anything but I will often complain about the water. It’s a personal thing I guess, but at least as far as bottled water I much prefer the taste of the ones I get back home. Tap water depends on the place.

  18. Nothing – I’m there for the local cuisine as much as anything else. Anyone who takes anything food etc on holiday is doing it wrong.
