Here in Italy, there is a growing interest for zero-km grocies, particularly for fruit and vegetables.

It is quite easy to find fruit and vegetables from local producer, especially in the south of the countries and particularly in small towns; one in two families has often got a piece of land where they grow their veggies, fruits, olives in order to make olive oil and grapes to make their wine. Then they either sell it to local groceries shops, have their own small shop where they sell it or, if they produce small quantities, just keep it for themselves/donate to their relatives.

I'm conducting a research on this topic and I was wondering if in the rest of Europe, especially those countries where agricolture is quite strong, if people have and interest in buying local, fresh groceries instead of just going to the big supermarkets and perhaps even pay a little extra in exchange for a much higher quality of the products.

I'm curious to read your thoughts on this!

  1. The term itself is virtually unknown here, but people do talk about trying to buy locally.
