Lazy, rainy Sunday morning. A [Banana Pancakes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdgoG8hTMUw) type of day.
The Olympic beach volleyball stadium looks very out of place being n under the Effiel tower. It’s jarring to see some of the female players wearing bikinis like it’s the beach.
I may not be Femke Bol, but I did manage a morning jog 😀 I also picked a bowl full of raspberries afterwards as a treat. We have a ton of them at the moment, but I don’t pick them as often as I like to because the raspberry bushes are teeming with mosquitoes.
Big congrats to all nations who got their first/second medals (and gold!!!) yesterday. There were many teary moments. Also congrats to Estonia for their amazing decathletes.
So, I started reading a book called “Twelve”. I had bought it God knows when, or why, and had no idea what it’s about. It takes place around the Napoleonic Wars, and told from the point of view of a Russian officer. The French are closing in, and they’re desperate. One of them suggests closing a deal with a group of mercenaries. These are twelve men who seem to be nothing but zealots who like fighting and specialize in stealth. They travel at night, they want nothing but “spoils of war”, and one of them is as strong as ten men…
Vampires. They’re vampires. Like, the author is bending over backwards not to say it, but 60 pages in, it’s so obvious. So, after Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, this seems like War and Peace and Vampires. But it’s okay, it’s quite well-written and entertaining.
The officer, as he is stationed away from his family, visits a prostitute. Which probably happened (still happens) a lot. He talks a lot about how he feels bad morally because he has a wife and kid at home but… honestly I would feel worse for maybe transmitting STDs to my poor wife. Like, I wonder if it happened a lot that married women got syphilis and whatnot because their husbands couldn’t keep it in their pants. It’s not like they had good condoms or anything.
