I exercise at a Basic Fit gym (for those not aware, it is a chain of gyms mainly based in Benelux and France). I am seeing that ever since the Olympics began, more and more people are actually showing up at the gym. Many of them I haven't seen before, and I don't know whether they registered in the last week. I did not ask anyone whether this increased activity is because of the Olympics, or something else.

I have heard that running shoes sell like hot cakes during the Olympics. It is seen as a great chance to market these shoes to people who might otherwise lack motivation.

With that said, is it also common for gyms and sports facilities in your country to have a lot of activity? Either new people signing up, or non-frequent gymgoers showing up due to all the hype around some events. And in general, how is the sports and fitness culture in your country? Here in the Netherlands, a sports are a part of daily life, even for adults.
