How do I do streaks on snapchat to communicate with people?

Most of the people around me use snapchat to communicate, but I feel kinda left out because idk how it works. I’ve had snapchat for a while now, and I still don’t understand what people mean by this ‘streaks’ thing. I just feel out of touch. Can someone help?
